Its World Tourism Day and What It Means to India on Global Tourist Map

Today is world tourism day and across the world programs and events have been launched to celebrate this day with full enthusiasm. World tourism day celebration was an initiative of United Nations World Tourism Organizations(UNWTO) in 1980 with the objective of creating awareness towards the role of tourism between nations and its effect on social, economical, cultural and political values worldwide.

It was proposed by late Ignatius Amaduwa Atigbi from nigeria to mark 27th September as world tourism day which was accepted and his contribution in this regard was recognized by UNWTO in 2009.

Every year UNWTO selects a partner country as an organizer for World Tourism Day Celebration.

India too participated on this occasion as it has immense potential to be a front runner on global tourism map. It presents tourists across the world, with diversified interests in terms of cultural, wildlife, historical and adventure tourism.
