On Friday, July 29th Kerala Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan met Union Minister for Civil Aviation Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju and put the demand an enhanced domestic connectivity in the state, for which the minister assured that he will bring this matter to the notice of airliners concerned. Prior to it, he proposed to develop airstrips at different destinations within Kerala. Wayanad, Idukki, Bakal and Sabrimala are on the list to improve connectivity for the chartered tourists as well as the development of Kerala Tourism Infrastructure.
Mr. Vijayan said that we have great potential for the different tourism activities within state of Kerala. We eagerly required to develop airstrips at many tourist spots so as to enable chartered flights to land.
When asked about the recently proposed controversial Aranmula Airport Project near Sabrimala in Pathanamthitta district, he said my government is already opposed to the that project as it poses risk to the Farming land over there. He added, that we are not opposing the construction of any airport but it should be practically possible. We are against the construction on any such agricultural land.
Mr. CM also demanded relaxation of landing norms at Calicut International Airport where wide-bodied aircrafts are not allowed to land after a DGCA directive on the expansion works. However, “We will boost up the process of land acquisition for the Airport.
