The 18th Kalidas Festival 2016 began in Nagpur organised by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) associated with Kalidas Mahotsav Samiti, Nagpur on November 20 and it will be concluded on November 23, 2016.
The popular Kalidas Festival is praised in Nagpur in the memory of the immense Sanskrit poet Kalidas and his remarkable work in the field of verse. Ramtek is that place where Kalidas composed his well-known poetries. This celebration is all the more a tribute to Kalidas and his lifetime commitment to the area of poetry. This tradition to celebrate Kalidas Festival in Nagpur had been started by MTDC in the month of November 1996.
Festival inaugurated by Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Mr. Devendra Fadnavis yesterday at Nandiwardhan (Nagardhan) Fort in Ramtek at 5 pm. The function started with performances by Pt Bhavani Shankar and Uma Shankar, a Kuchipudi move executed by Bhavana and Yamini Reddy and a Sufi and society execution by Padma Shri Guru Bharati Bandhu on the primary day of the occasion at Nagardhan Fort. Amish Tripathi, the creator of Indian blockbuster ‘The Shiva Trilogy’ discussed on his understanding of Shiva and his engraving on move and music at Vasantrao Deshpande Hall at 12:00 noon onwards.

Visitors will able to see many performances from 21 to 23 November at V.D (Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande) Hall in evening onwards. The principal day of the occasion will showcase some best exhibitions related to classical music & dance by Indian established performer – Rahul Sharma, classical vocalist – Kalaapini Komkalli, Mohiniyattam & Kathakali by Dr. Neena Prasad & fluit presentation by Debopriya and Suchismita Chatterjee. The last day execution will incorporate semi-classical vocal by Rohit & Rahul Mishra apart from a Kathak dance by Shama Bhate. The event of Kalidas festival will finish up by very talented Pt. Ajoy Chakrovarty, with a vocal presentation.
