Vishwa Shanti Stupa Rajgir is a Buddhist stupa in bihar constructed over ratnagiri hills which have an altitude of 1000 feet. It is believed on the basis of historical facts through various sources that Gautam Buddha had delivered few of his teachings over a connecting peak of this hill known as Gridhkut Hills.
The Stupa, or peace pagoda constructed by Buddhist community of japan as a part of their mission in order to tribute places related significantly with Lord Buddha life and spread his message of non violence throughout the world. One of the main attraction of Vishwa Shanti Stupa Rajgir, is a chair lift ariel rope way through which visitors are taken to the top of the hill and vice versa. The journey takes around 20 minutes from one side. Except this, they can also use stairs which take around half an hour to the top of the ratnagiri hills.
Vishwa shanti stupa rajgir was constructed by Japanese government and Buddhist community of japan in 1969 with the assistance of government of india. It is among the 80 such stupas throughout the world dedicated to buddhism. These are often called peace pagodas because they have been built as a symbol of non violence after japan became a victim of atom bomb in the second world war.
Vishwa shanti stupa at rajgir is a white domed like structure having buddha statues on all four sides in different meditation posture. The height of the foundation of the stupa is around 20 feet and built up of white marbles. The Japanese style of Buddhist architect can easily be viewed in the structure.
Ratnagiri foothills is located at a distance of 3 Kms from Rajgir and around 100 Kms from Patna.
